Whale protection requirements

Before undertaking any on-water activities during Hamilton Island Race Week, accredited media and media boat operators must comply with all applicable Commonwealth and Queensland laws and regulations relating to marine mammals, including the additional whale protection requirements that apply within the Whitsundays Whale Protection Area.

Accredited media should familiarise themselves with the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority's whale protection regulations and guidance before heading out on the water.

For more information, visit:

Compliance with all applicable marine mammal protection regulations is a condition of media accreditation for anyone undertaking on-water activities during Hamilton Island Race Week.

Assessment for media accreditation

All applications are assessed by the Hamilton Island PR team. Media accreditation is granted at the discretion of Hamilton Island Enterprises Limited.

If you don't meet the accreditation criteria, you're still very welcome to attend Hamilton Island Race Week as a spectator.
